Piknik nad Odra is today one of the largest open-air events in Szczecin, held in the city’s most iconic location – the Chrobry Embankments. Its history dates back to 1992, when the first edition of the Market Tour Travel Fair took place in Międzyzdroje. At that time, the event was a trade fair primarily for accommodation providers from the Polish coast and travel agencies from across the country. It focused on business networking and exchanging offers, with individual visitors playing a minor role.
Over the years, the fair moved to Szczecin, marking the beginning of a major transformation. The Market Tour Travel Fair became the largest open-air tourism event in Poland — today, it is the most attended fair of its kind in the country and the second oldest, after the Poznań fair. Szczecin began attracting not only Polish tourism representatives but also international guests — first from Germany and the Czech Republic, and later from southern Europe and even more distant parts of the world. The festival avenues quickly became a source of inspiration for all travel enthusiasts.
As the event grew in popularity, its format expanded. The fair was joined by the Variety Market, full of unique products and handcrafted goods, followed by the Craft Beer Zone, where visitors can discover the flavors of beers and ciders made with passion. A Children’s Zone was created for the youngest attendees, and part of the area was dedicated to an Amusement Park, which attracts crowds of families every year. Another highlight became the Food Truck Flavors Festival, offering tastes from around the world, and the culinary show Great Cooking, which tempts with aromas and allows visitors to try regional dishes prepared live.
A new feature introduced in 2024 was the Polish-German Discover Pomerania Zone, showcasing the richness and potential of the entire border region. In 2025, the concept of a Partner Country and Region was added, giving special prominence in the program to selected hosts presenting their culture, cuisine, and tourist attractions.
In 2025, the Piknik nad Odrą also joined forces with Scandinavian Days for the first time. Visitors were drawn to a relaxing space with deck chairs, opportunities to try Scandinavian flavors, and activities for both children and adults.
Today’s Piknik nad Odra is the result of over three decades of evolution — from a niche tourism trade fair to the Travel and Leisure Festival “Piknik nad Odra”, attracting thousands of residents, tourists, and exhibitors from around the world each year. The event not only promotes tourism but also combines diverse leisure activities, strengthens community ties, and showcases Szczecin as an open, modern, and vibrant city.
